Allotments at F J Ahier Country Garden
We have 61 allotments at the F J Ahier Country Gardens in St Lawrence on Mont Cochon. These are leased to plot holders on a yearly lease for £100 (small plot) or £200 (large plot) per year.
The plot holders grow a marvellous amount of produce on their plots and take pride in caring for them. There is an amazing sense of community at the allotments, with plot holders often helping each other out and swapping produce with one another. There are regular events held for plot holders that often feature a demonstration on growing or showing produce.
The land was kindly donated by F J Ahier in 1955 for use by the Horticultural Department of the RJA&HS. After much planning, 61 plots were created at the F J Ahier Country Gardens and they were officially opened in September 2009. There are two sizes of allotments at the site, small at 1.5 perch (75 square metres) and large at 3 perch (150 square metres). These were marked out by current Horticultural Chairman Mr Graham de Gruchy and his late brother, Wilfy de Gruchy.
Plot Competition – Saturday 23 July 2016
A friendly competition amongst the plot holders, for the best plot, is held each July and is kindly sponsored by Ernie Le Feuvre Limited.
This year the Plot Competition is held on Saturday 23rd July.
To enter the competition or if you have any queries, please contact the Horticultural Secretary on 866555 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Allotments Open Day – Sunday 4 September 2016
On the first Sunday in September each year, plot holders gather to celebrate the anniversary of the official opening of the F J Ahier Country Gardens in 2009. There is a sunflower competition held at the Open Day, which plot holders can enter, for the tallest sunflower or the sunflower with the widest head. Refreshments are served and there will be a demonstration. To enter the Sunflower Competition, please contact the Horticultural Secretary on 866555 or email@example.com.
We would love for you to join our team of plot holders. All the allotments are currently allocated, but we do have a waiting list open.
If you would like to place your name on the list, please contact the Horticultural Secretary on 866555 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
